Dr. Neophytos (Neo) Papaneophytou earned a Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology; he holds licenses (LPC, LMHC) in various States (CT, FL, GA, MA, NJ, NY, PA, TX, Pending: MD). He has completed training in multiple areas of specialization, including “sexual abuse and neglect”, "paraphilia/pedophilia", “personality disorders” and “trauma”. Dr. Neo has extensive experience with both “sexual/other victims” and “abusers”, as well as with conditions/diagnoses pertinent to anxiety, mood disorders, depression, schizophrenia (severe and persistent mental illness), bereavement, divorce, adjustment issues, LGBTQU+ issues, ADHD, PTSD, school/behavioral issues and parenting among other. When working with clients (children, adults, and couples) Dr. Papaneophytou utilizes a client-centered approach in order to facilitate optimal therapeutic results and allow client(s) to enjoy an improved quality of life. Behavior modification, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, transference-focused psychotherapy, dynamic psychotherapy and trauma-focused CBT are some of the techniques/therapies utilized in his practice. Throughout his career, Dr. Neo has facilitated many therapy groups, including anger management, teenager/school issues, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and stress management, among other.
In addition to his clinical practice and research, Dr. Papaneophytou’s career includes teaching psychology courses for over 20 years at institutions, such as the City University of New York, The State University of New York, and many other local and international universities, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. One of the postdoctoral programs Dr. Neo completed was in the scientific field of “Infant-Parent Mental Health”, while others focused on fields, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with much therapeutic work having been completed with clients who were actively present during the “September 11th” events in NYC.
Dr. Neo has been volunteering with FEMA's Office of Emergency Management (Hoboken CERT/NJ) for years. He also volunteers as a disaster mental health clinician who engaged in animal-assisted/pet therapy in the past. Furthermore, Dr. Papaneophytou is the founder and President of two (2) non-profit organizations, aiming at expanding awareness and offering actionable help to people on the Autism Spectrum and their families. As the author of many children’s books and co-editor of the book “Autism 360 degrees” (2019), Dr. Neo ensured that all proceeds from book sales go toward his charity.
Dr. Neo welcomes new clients and accepts referrals for all states he is licensed in (telehealth only.)He is a Distance Credentialed Counselor and holds licenses in CT, FL, GA, MA, NJ, NY, PA, and TX (MD pending). My Distance Credentialed Counselor credentials (DCC) enable me to offer online, telephone, and video-conferencing sessions with clients. This mode of therapy is not used with young children.
